Prairie des Femmes, Women’s Prairie, is a small community in St. Landry Parish. Originally the home of Indians who moved along the prairies of the Bayou Teche, Prairie des Femmes appears on colonial maps and in records as early as the mid 1700s. It has historically been a place where Creole, Acadian and native women came to find safety from war, flood, and the outside world. I am a mother, wife, Evangeline Parish native and resident of La Prairie des Femmes. Created by the lovely Ashley Michot, this website is an amazing cultural resource. Visit HERE.
